Berlin International Film Festival 2025
75 years of Film Festival in Berlin.
For three quarters of a century the world's largest and most famous film festival has taken place in Berlin. Yearly around 300,000 tickets are sold for 400 viewings, and a passionate and large audience are presented ith film material, small and large scandals, unforgettable moments and people with a passion for film.
The festival lasts seven days, and in the grand Competition, the following awards are given out:
- The Golden Bear for Best Film and Honorary Golden Bear for Lifetime Achievement.
- The Silver Bear for Grand Jury Prize (short films), Jury's Grand Prize, Best Director; Best Leading Performance, Best Supporting Performance. Best Screenplay and Outstanding Artistic Contribution.
- Other awards include: The Audience Award, The Glass Bear for years 14+ and children, Berlinale Camera and Shooting Stars Award.
This Year's Highlights
- Scottish actress Tilda Swinton to receive the Golden Bear for Lifetime Achievement for her long career and strong contribution to the film industry.
- A name on many lips this year is Timothée Chalamet. In the role as the young Bob Dylan in A Complete Unknown he has a chance of being the youngest Oscar winner ever. Chalamet does things a little diffferently, and is expected to do a media stunt while at the Berlinale.
- Ethan Hawke is widely recognized for his acting and directing of Blue Moon, a drama set to the opening of the show Oklahoma in 1943.
- Director Bong Joon-Ho is back, and this time with a sci-fi thriller called Mickey 17. Joon-Ho is known for films such as Parasite.
