Winterland is directed by Hisham Zaman, who in 2005 made Amanda and the Grimstad winner Bawke (best short film).
With warmth and a humorous slant, Zaman tells the story of the Kurdish refugee Renas who lives alone, far to the north, and far from his homeland. Soon he will marry his specially chosen princess, Fermesk, a beautiful girl from a good family who will arrive by plane from northern Iraq. But when Fermesk finally arrives, she doesn't look like the woman in the photographs. And she is completely different than he has imagined. Nor does he live up to her ideas about the man of her dreams. The intoxication of first love is over. Both regret. But now they only have each other, under the same roof, in winterland.
