A professional criminal, played by Mel Gibson, is being sought by Mexican authorities and placed in a tough prison. Inside the walls, the help of a 9-year-old boy becomes the straw of his fight for survival.
It becomes difficult to explain to police on the border between Mexico and the United States why the car is full of money, and the journey for the Americans goes to the unknown El Pueblito prison, a violent place for hard-headed lawless. Although the gringo manages to keep his identity a secret, he is sought out by a corrupt US embassy official who is aware of the money. It should turn out that he is not the only one with the knowledge. Even the gang he stole the money from is on track. The American's only hope of being able to escape all of them is suddenly linked to the little boy - who can hold the key to freedom for both of them.
