Life smiles at John Brennan (Crowe) until his wife Laura (Banks) is arrested for a murder she refuses to have committed. He is certain that she is innocent and that the court will release her. But the court only looks at the evidence and witnesses' statements - and she is sentenced to 20 years in prison.
Three years into his wife's sentence, John struggles to keep his family together. He has sole responsibility for his son's upbringing and a job that demands a lot from him. At the same time, all his remaining powers help to get Laura acquitted. When everything is at its darkest, when his last plea is gone and his wife becomes suicidal, he sees only one solution: With everything to lose, John decides to get his big love out of captivity. At the same time, he sits down to make the escape plan.
