The idyllic marriage crumbles when Laura (January Jones) falls victim to a brutal assault. Her husband Nick (Nicolas Cage) is approached by the mysterious Simon (Guy Pearce) who offers to remove the assailant from the face of the earth. All he requires is that Nick show up for a small service at a later date. Nick is drawn into a vigilante organization and quickly finds out that he has taken water over his head.
