Once upon a time, Bob "Champ" Satterfield was a great boxer with a promising career. Today, he struggles to survive by scavenging for scraps in trash cans and defending himself against mobs who like to attack homeless people like him. Sports journalist Erik Kernan prevents an attack, and only afterwards discovers who he has saved. With the story of "The Champ" Kernan can deliver a real journalistic knockout. But Kernan also has his own opponents to fight.
