My Neighbours the Yamadas

104 minutes 1999 7.1

My Neighbors the Yamadas is about a relatively functional Japanese nuclear family, whose life we ??get an insight into through a series of loosely structured episodes with titles such as 'Father as a role model' and 'A family in crisis'. The film spices up the small everyday situations with references to Japanese culture and detours to the free imagination, such as when marriage is shown as a furious bobsleigh race.

The style is radically different from Studio Ghibli's other productions and was the first of the company's films to be made digitally. It is full of funny and universal considerations, a warm embrace of a film.

The film is not playable outside of Norway
