Princess Mononoke

137 minutes 1997 8.3

While protecting his village from a demon, brave young warrior Ashitaka is struck by a deadly curse. To save his life he must travel to the forests of the west. When he arrives there he becomes involved in a fierce battle where the humans are trying to take over the forest. The ambitious Lady Eboshi and her loyal clansmen use all weapons against the forest gods and a brave young woman, Princess Mononoke.

This is the film that in 1997 put Studio Ghibli and director Hayao Miyazaki (My Neighbor Totoro and Chihiro and the Witches) on the international film map - and with its focus on how human development threatens to destroy the Earth's ecosystem, it is more relevant than ever.
