Out of the Darkness is a powerful family saga in two parts, which portrays a family through the challenges and struggles of the war years. Part two,Out of the Darkness 2, is a strong dramatic sequel to the initial Out of the Darkness.
We follow the Skov family from the spring of 1943, when the cooperation policy ended, to the summer of 1945, when Denmark became free again. The Skov family is now divided. Aksel joined the resistance movement and has gone underground. He grows from idealistic amateur to hardened resistance fighter. Karl fights for his life's work under increasingly worse conditions, and when the coalition government falls he suddenly finds himself without political backing, so he must navigate dangerous waters to secure his family's future - also after the war. This puts the relationship with Eva under pressure. She has always had problems with her husband being so cooperative. The growing resistance to the occupation and the increased brutality of the Germans have fatal consequences for the family.
