In the 1980s, Rory, an ambitious entrepreneur and former commodity broker, persuaded his American wife Allison and their children to leave the comfort of an American residential area and return home to England. Rory sees a career leap and starts in his former company again, renting a hundred-year-old mansion with meadows for Allison's horses, and he wants to build a stable. But everyday life cracks under a lifestyle they can not afford and ever-increasing isolation - and then it carries towards a seemingly inevitable collapse.
