London, 1910. The three siblings Schlegel, big sister Margaret, little sister Helen and brother Tibby, are well placed without living in abundance. They get to know the Wilcox family, and before old Mrs. Ruth Wilcox dies, she will inherit the Howard's End cottage to Margaret. However, her husband and children choose to ignore her last wish, and keep it for themselves.
One of Merchant Ivory's masterpieces, with first-class acting in a history of class differences and changes in Edwardian England.
