Baker Dill (Matthew McConaughey) is a ravaged fisherman in the Caribbean whose mysterious past catches up with him when his teenage friend Karen (Anne Hathaway) suddenly appears. She asks Dill to save her and their son from her new, violent husband (Jason Clarke). Soon, Dill gets messed up in a series of incidents where nothing is as it seems.
