The Violin

16 minutes 2015

An old violin adorns the different stages of Singapore over 80 years, the music bears witness of a young country's transformation from the busy 1930s to the dark days of the Japanese occupation, followed by the political awakening in the 60s that lead to independence and finally: today. "The Violin" is a part of TIMESCAPES - a collection first officially shown as an anthology in August 2018 at the Seoul International Animated Film Festival, with 6 animated short films about life, love and the landscapes of Singapore in the past and present. With practically no dialogue, each film is accompanied by a musical score with the aim to show how our living landscapes and surroundings intertwined with our memories and imagination. The stories are based on Singapore's past stretching over 80 years.
