A women's choir visits Ystad and makes great success in a church outside the city center. When one of the members, 18-year-old Miranda Dahno, disappears without a trace from the school where the choir is accommodated, the police are immediately called. Apparently Miranda has traveled voluntarily, but soon there are signs indicating the opposite. The exciting pursuit of both victim and perpetrator leads Wallander and his colleagues toward several people who have been close to Miranda. for sometimes the boundary between hate and love can be delicate.
