CIA analyst Douglas Freeman (Jake Gyllenhaal) questions his job as he witnesses an extremely brutal interrogation conducted by the secret, North African police. The interrogator is the Egyptian-born American Anwar El-Ibrahimi (Omar Metwally), who works as a chemical engineer in the United States. Now he is suspected of being the brain behind a terrorist attack. Anwar's pregnant wife, Isabella (Reese Whiterspoon), has no idea about this interrogation, and she does everything she can to find her missing husband.
