Larsen, an aspiring poet in the 1920's Oslo, whose marriage proposal was recently rejected, goes to East Greenland to spend a year at an outpost for hunting and trapping animals for furs. At the outpost he meets two men, a scientist and an old sailor and trapper, who are not too keen to spend the winter with the newcomer. A powerful psychological and physical drama set against stunningly bleak arctic scenery.
