Dutiful George Bailey puts in own dreams aside to run the family business, a house bank, after his father's death. The job and the very modest income weighs on him over the years. He is also suspected of financial crimes, even if he is innocent. The shame and despair brings him to contemplate suicide. His family and friends, and even angels must help him to realize that life is good. The world would be a worse place without him.
When It's a Wonderful Life premiered Christmas 1946, people thought it was depressing. By administrative fault it was made public and made all the TV stations, thus ensuring everybody could see it. It eventually became a Christmas classic.
Christmas is the time for simple messages, and no one could avoid being moved when Bailey comes to the conclusion that life is, in fact, wonderful.
