Notre-Dame on Fire

110 minutes 2022 6.5

On the Monday before Easter, 15 April 2019, at 18:17, the fire alarm went off in the iconic Notre-Dame Cathedral in Paris, which has been one of the city's main attractions since 1345. The fire spread while the fire brigade tried to reach it, but roadworks, traffic jams and the increasing panic among all the people who were assembled in the streets in the mild evening, caused the fire to gain a better hold. It was the beginning of a long series of mistakes, misunderstandings and accidents which meant that in the end it was only luck, superhuman courage and extraordinary self-sacrifice that kept the towers and priceless objects from falling victim to the flames, and the cathedral was not completely destroyed.
