Lighthouse keeper Tom Sherbourne and the radiant, energetic Isabel live together in marital bliss on a remote, wild island off the coast of Australia. But their windswept world is turned upside down when Isabel realizes that she is unable to carry a child. One day a lifeboat drifts ashore with a crying baby in it. The dilemma the couple now faces echoes far beyond the island, engulfing and irrevocably affecting their world - and that of a stranger - a passionate story of love, hope, and a fateful choice.
