Get ready for something as rare as a feel-good movie from Gaza. “The Idol” reminds us all that dreams are worth living for. The film depicts the upbringing on the Gaza Strip with both joy and sorrow. And with amazing music!

We meet 10-year-old Mohammad and his 12-year-old sister Nour, who have a strong bond, both as siblings and through a common passion for music. They both realize that Mohammad have a fantastic talent for singing. Like many youngsters, Mohammad dreams of becoming a star, and amazingly, he manages to escape from Gaza and do an audition on the popular talent show “Arab Idol” in Cairo. Mohammad goes to the final rounds and must confront his own fear by taking control of his destiny, which brings hope and joy to people who live in bottomless despair and desperation. 

The Idol is an inspirational drama based on the true story of Mohammad Assaf. Assaf is today a well-established star around the world, and a UN ambassador, but he still needs special permission to get in and out of Gaza.
