Leviathan
Kolia lives a simple and secluded life in a small town on the Barents Sea. He lives with a young wife, who works at the fish factory, and a defiant teenager from a previous marriage. Kolia doesn't own much, but he has a nice villa with a great view of the sea. It's a lovely place. So does the mayor think as well. He has put his love on the property of Kolia and is gradually trying to get his hands on it.
Leviathan is a masterpiece from today's Russia. It tells smart and outrageous about corruption and abuse of power in one of our closest neighbors. Leviathan is Andrey Zvyagintsev's fourth feature film and follows up The Return (2003), The Banishment (2007) and Elena (2011) in a masterful way. No other director takes the pulse of Russia like him. Zvyagintsev was honored with the screenplay award at the Cannes Film Festival.
