The Grandmaster is an epic action movie directed by Wong Kar-Wai and inspired by the life and history of the legendary kung fu master, Ip Man.

The story spans from the revolutionary Republican era that followed the fall of the last imperial dynasty, a time of chaos, divide and war, but which was also the golden age of Chinese martial arts. Filmed in a number of great locations that include snow-capped landscapes in Northeast China and the subtropical South, The Grandmaster presents outstanding performances from some of the biggest stars in modern Asian film, including Tony Leung and Ziyi Zhang.

The film was the opening film during the Berlin International Film Festival 2013 and is Hong Kong's Oscar contribution to best foreign film next year.
