Finnmarksvidda in the 19th century. We meet young Sami Aigin (17) on his way home after hunting in the mountains. The Sami are a peaceful hunter-gatherer people trying to survive in the frozen wasteland. Aigin witnesses his family being brutally killed by the Tjudene - rival nomads coming from the east. Aigin flees, thinking he can hide his tracks, but the Tjudene find him and force him to lead them to a new Sami camp. Aigin apparently follows their orders while plotting his revenge.
