The Bear

96 minutes 1988 7.7

The Bear is the grand adventure about the bear cub Youk who lives happily with his mother in the majestic mountains when tragedy strikes. A rock slide kills the mom, so Youk has to fend for himself. He joins forces with a giant, wounded Kodiak bear who at first does not want to know about him. To the echo of gunshots and dog barks, they flee as their friendship is awakened and deepened...

The Oscar-winning giant Jean-Jacques Annaud (Seven Years in Tibet, The Name of the Rose) prepared this film for a full six years. Each scene required months of training for the twelve bears who share the main roles. The result is a film of a kind that has never been made before - or since. It grossed an incredible NOK 1.5 billion worldwide and was for a long time the biggest film success in French history.
