Former beauty queen and pensioner Solvej lives alone with her dog in a welfare home on the outskirts of the small Danish town of Viborg. Every day she follows the same old routine where she roams around on her moped and sells the medicines she receives on prescription. Solvej dreams of a world outside Viborg and reminisces about old love letters from the past. When unforeseen circumstances bring her together with the neighbor's daughter, rebellious 17-year-old Kate, an unexpected friendship arises, and perhaps new hope for the future dawns.
