My Golden Days
My Golden Days present us with three excerpts from the year of formation of the soon-to-be middle-aged Paul Dédalus. Paul is about to leave life in Tajikistan as he lets his mind wander back to events and people who played important roles in his early life.
In retrospect, he remembers the youth of Roubaix, his mother's repeated nervous breakdowns, his relationship with his pious but violent brother Ivan, a trip to the Soviet Union, where he passed on the passport to a young Russian man, his studies in Paris and his budding interest in anthropology. But most of all, he remembers his burning love affair with Esther and their turbulent love affair.
