The lonely man Friendless sells all his possessions and embarks on a journey that ends in Arizona, where he falls off the train near a ranch where he is employed. On the ranch, he helps Brown Eyes, a lame cow, who has been given a stone in the hoof. He has, as a thank you for the help, now got his first friend. But the father is wondering. Brown Eyes should be sent to the slaughterhouse.
