Robber chief Mattis is very happy to have a daughter - Ronja. The joy turns into disappointment when Ronja grows up and becomes friends with Birk, the son of Mattis`s arch-rival Borka. The fathers' bitter battle for the Mattis castle will be a trial for the friendship between Ronja and Birk.
