Santa Sangre

123 minutes 1989 7.5

A young man in an almost catatonic condition is being held in a psychiatric hospital. During a group outing, the man meets a woman from his past, which awakens the man to life again and reminds him of the trauma of his childhood. The shock also gives him an impulse to want to escape from the sanatorium to track down his mother, who leads a sect.

Santa Sangre is a film about how madness reaches the open society, and a search for something that can be understood in a world that cannot be deciphered. All depicted through Alejandro Jodorowsky's legendary surrealism.
