Antonia's Line

102 minutes 1995 7.4

Antonia looks back on her life. After World War II, she returns to her birthplace, an anonymous and quite sleepy dutch village. She and her daughter have returned to bury their old mother and grandmother. This is no ordinary funeral, for the old lady sits up in the coffin to sing "My Blue Heaven," and a statue of Jesus himself smiles.

After the funeral, the farmer Bas shows up. He is not shy in his courtesy, and emphasizes that his 5 sons need a mother. Antonia finds this rather overwhelming, but invites him to come over once in a while to do some small work that needs to be done. And as if this were not enough, other strange things begin to happen!
