It has been said about cats that they know exactly how to position themselves to be in the way. And therein lies the nature of cats: they are headstrong, they are determined, and they will not be ignored.
Here are a range of films about cats. as artistic motifs, as man's second best friend, and as fascinating creatures in many homes.
The Cat Returns is a Japanese animated adventure about school girl Haru, saving a cat from being run over. To celebrate the event a parade is held in her honor, and she is abducted by a mob of cats to the Cat Kingdom to marry the Cat Prince. The film is a Studio Ghibli production.
Al Pacino plays a middle-aged locksmith who feels alienated in from society, and only capable of loving his cat. Manglehorn is an indie-film about a man who is trying to start over, starring Al Pacino as Manglehorn and Holly Hunter as Dawn.
The hunt for his girlfriend's cat leads this usually steady guy astray, in Lost Cat Corona. On the way he must confront his own fear, and change his mind about a lot of things. But he cannot lose focus on the cat he is looking for.
The Electrical Life of Louis Wain is a biographical film about the eccentric Louis Wain, who through his art changed the way we look at cats forever. The movie features the time period from teh late1800s to the 1930s, and lets us follow the incredible adventures of this inspiring, unknown hero as he tries to solve the world's "electrical" riddles. Louis is played by Benedict Cumberbatch, and his wife is played by Emily Richardson.
Kedi is the story of cat town Istanbul, where hundreds of thousands of cats are allowed to roam the streets. They bring solace and company to the inhabitants, and give the city a special atmosphere This critically acclaimed documentary has won several prizes and is one of the most popular foreign documentaries in the USA ever.
It is a myth that cats only live in very large numbers in the houses of old women. Men can also have "a hundred" cats. In the fascinating documentary Cat Daddies we meet men who find, own and love cats above everything.
