Juliette Binoche

A versatile and talented actress.

French acting veteran Juliette Binoche has been made head of this year's jury at the Cannes Film Festival, making her nr. 78 in line. It is a power position for a few select people, and she takes over for director Greta Gerwig.

Juliette Binoche began her career in 1983 in Jean-Luc Godard's film Hail Mary, and over the last four decades she has had more than 60 film roles and worked with countless brilliant directors. The Norwegian audience will probably know her best for her role as the grieving composer in Krzysztof Kieslowski’s emotional drama Blue (Bleu) and from the charming Chocolat co-starring Johnny Depp.

Binoche is one of the few actors who has won prizes at Europe's three major film festivals: Cannes, Venice and Berlin. She is also one of the few French actors who have won an Oscar. (The English Patient, 1996).

She is a politically engaged person who, through her work on film, on stage and in the media, voice her opinions in the public debate.

Here's a selection of filmatic gems for those who already know Juliette Binoche, and those who encounter this talented actress for the first time.
