Penguin Bloom
Samantha Bloom breaks her back in an accident and becomes paralyzed from the chest down. Sam - an otherwise sporty person who surfs and travels - is caught up in a depression that makes her ask who she can be in the world and in her own family. A year later, her children find a damaged magpie, which they take home. Sam cautiously approaches the magpie, which the children have called "Penguin", and begins to attach herself to the new family member. It sets in motion an emotional healing process that surprises her husband, sons, mother and Sam herself.
