Theme: mental health
More conversations!
This week marks the World Mental Health Day. On 10 October we put extra focus on information and understanding for those struggling with their mental health.
This year's theme is "We need to talk more" (#Give8minutes), which refers to the need for more everyday interaction. A little conversation can make all the difference!
Here are some inspiring and gripping movies about mental health and the importance of being there for each other.
Men's mental health has become a hot topic in recent years. Take Shelter portraits a familyman whose world suddenly changes drastically. Is it real or is it only in his head?
Den deprimerte klovnen (The Depressed Clown)
At the age of 61 Knut gets depressed in a way that threatens to dominate his life. Aided by his inner clown he finds life and light again.
Humour and wisdom both exist within the clown's universe, something film maker Christian Wulff explores with his old drama teacher Knut Østrådal in this documentary.
Classical Shine starring Oscar-winner Geoffrey Rush tells the story of David Helfgott, an outstanding concert pianist who had a bright future. His dominating father traumatized him, resulting in mental problems. The rest of his life became a struggle to reclaim his inner genius.
Psychoanalyst Selma returns to Tunis after spending ten years in Paris, to start her own clinic. But how do you start a practice in a community where nobody admits their problems? And how do you camouflage mental problems that do not officially "exist"?
The year is 1961, and the famous psychologist Stanley Milgram performs his behavioral experiments. People are asked to give potentially deadly electric shocks to others, but are also being told that they are not responsible for the actions.
The movie is based on actual events where controversial experiments were being performed, all in the name of research.
Kenny and Lolita have seen the same psychologist, and they both agree that he did a lousy job, since they are still depressed. So they decide to take a roadtrip to the Golden Gate Bridge.
The movie is a story about two desperately unhappy people, who are a little less lonely as long as they hold on to each other.
