Porco Rosso

94 minutes 1992 7.7

Buckle up for another airy adventure from Hayao Miyazaki and Studio Ghibli!

We are at the end of the 20s and the air is crawling with pirates. Pirates that are mostly good - but also rob tourists of their valuables.

Boaters of all kinds are fear being robbed by the pirates, and foolhardy pirates jeopardize their health, planes and reputations in the fight against the pirates.

The very best of them is the star pilot who has lost his belief in humanity and cursed himsef. A curse that gave him the face of a pig, and identity and a name: Porco Rosso - the red pig! In his crimson plane he flies wherever he wants, chasing the criminals and the bounty.

Porco Rosso, which was Miyazaki's fourth film for Studio Ghibli, was originally planned as a 45-minute short for Japan Air Lines. But of course, it didn't take long for Miyazaki's well-known love of airplanes and the romance of the air to take over and the story grew to feature length. The result has been a nostalgic adventure film that can perhaps best be described as a breezy mix of Hemingway and Cardamom City - in other words, it's embraced broadly, with plenty to enjoy for both young and old!

The film is not playable outside of Norway
