Herbert West and Dan Cain work as doctors during the civil war in Peru. Corpses pile up around them, giving them endless opportunities to experiment with West's specialty: reviving the dead. Back at Miskatonic University, they use their new knowledge for even more morbid experiments than ever, as West promises to use Cain's dead fiancee's heart to create a new lover for him.
