Full of surprises and unexpected events, this is a movie to be loved. Fifteen-year-old Oliver Tate has two major goals in life: saving his parents' marriage, through a carefully devised plan, and losing his innocence by his next birthday.

He suspects that his mother is having an affair with New Age-scary Graham (Paddy Considine) and is therefore trying to control his parents' sex life, dictating love letters from his mother that he sends to his father. His own love interest, Jordana is refreshingly complicated; a self-taught pyromaniac who needs to read through Oliver's diary notes - especially the parts about her.
