Director Naomi Kawase has been called "a master at creating great moments with small means". The Friday film this week deals with the act of looking, and the exercise it is to really see something.
Friday movie: Mot solnedgangen (Radiance)
Misako writes film interpretations for the visually impaired, and through her work she sees nuances that most people are unable to see. At a movie screening she meets the photographer Masaya, who is slowly but surely losing his eyesight. He must learn new ways of seing the world, and in the process leave his profession.
Radiance is a poetic movie about loss, redemption and acceptance, and at the very heart is the search for the golden light radiating from us all, if you only look close enough.
