Fridayfilm // week 23
When are you officially a grown-up?
The Friday film this week is an award-winning Norwegian comedy about a man in his finest 35-year age who is not quite ready for adulthood. When is someone an adult, anyway? When starting a new job? Having kids? Or when you stop drinking chocolate milk?
Friday film: More or Less Man
What Henrik wants most of all is to hang on to the life he had at 20, being pampered by mum, party like a student and be care-free. But his life will not give him a break. His partner, work and surroundings all demand new things from him, all the time.
The movie poses questions of the way we live our lives, and what gives us meaning. Do we absolutely have to grow up - or can we keep playing? Maybe grown-ups are just children playing a grown-up life?
The movie does not give definitive answers, but suggests in the opening scene a way forward: "...come on, let's dance". Forget about the everyday life just a little bit. Grow up, but keep playing!
