International Day of Mathematics
What is math?
Is it a puzzle, a tool-box, a game or a recipe? Either way, it is versatile and useful, and only a few understand it fully.
14 March is International Day of Mathematics, also known as Pi-Day (3/14). The intent behind marking the day is raising awareness of, and promoting, international mathematical cooperation. Arrangements and acitivities for those especially interested in mathematics are held all over the world on this day.
The film we would like to bring to attention on this day is Marguerites Lidenskap.
This French film centers around mathematical genius Marguerite Hoffmann. In the process of solving a wellknown and seemingly insolvable mathematical problem that has been vexing mathematics for 150 years, her theory is disproved and she decides to leave academia.
The road back is, for socially awkward Marguerite, mined and difficult. But can she master the social bit so that she will be able to convey the mathematics?
