A classical film noir from the Golden Age in Hollywood.

In this week's Friday film a master thief falls back to his old tricks after being released from a long prison sentence. 

Friday film: Rififi

Tony is done serving his sentence in prison, ready to be rehabilitated into society and find his place again. But he soon discovers that his girlfriend has left him for another man, and he feels he no longer has anything to lose. When his old accomplices approach him with a request to join in on a job, he is easily persuaded. 

Film Noir

The film was directed by world reknowned director Jules Dassin, and is a classic wiithin the genre of film noir. The genre was especially important from ca. 1940 to 1960, featuring crime dramas with cool detectives and mysterious and dangerous women. The atmosphere in the movies was often characterized by cynicism and lies. Other wellknown film-noir dierctor include Stanley Kubrick and Orson Welles. 

Rififi is regarded as Jules Dassin's maybe most important film, and it won an award for Best Director at the Cannes Film Festival.
