David Lynch: a distinctive filmmaker.
A farewell to David Lynch. An icon of the strange and fantastic.
Last week filmmaker and director David Lynch passed away, at the age of 78. His films, starting with his first feature film Eraserhead in 1977 onward to his last film Inland Empire, has received cult status and viewed as different, strange and provocative. The film that maybe appealed to broader audiences was his Oscar-nominated The Straight Story from 1999. He expressed a fondness for, and got inspired by, directors such as Federico Fellini, Jean-Luc Godard, Ingmar Bergman, Werner Herzog and Alfred Hitchcock, among others.
Lynch was, for many, most famous for his TV-series Twin Peaks, the surreal and dark work with its original characters, weird ambiance and melancholic music.
In addition to his career in film and TV, Lynch was an artist/ painter and worked to enlighten and teach others about Transcendental meditation. (TM)
