Fridayfilm // week 46
A ray of light.
Life on the streets can be hard, especially when you are a child. When Ali gets a chance to search for hidden treasure, he grabs it with both hands.
Friday film : Sun Children
Ali and his friends go in search of the treasure, but quickly discover that it is located beneath the local boarding school, and thus off limits. To be able to search, they need access to the school, and only attending students have that. Can the treasure hunt lead to more than the treasure itself?
Film and social project
Director Majid Majidi has previously made movies about poor children living on the Iranian streets, with obvious criticism of the system surrounding the children, which he feels fail to care for them. For Sun Children he held around 400 auditions, before choosing legitimate street children for the parts.
P3's Filmpolitiet wrote the following about the film: "Sun Children has a drive and rhythm that draws you in to the action, engages by the obviously difficult issues, and upsets you on behalf of the children."
IMDb-score: 7.1
