Norwegian films are becoming increasingly popular abroad, hailing both the skilled actors, directors and the sheer size of the productions. 

We have picked the following Norwegian quality films for your enjoyment. 

Onkel Jens

Akam is a teacher and lives a comfortable and normal life in a collective in Oslo. One day, his Iranian uncle unexpectedly shows up, and Akam feels obligated to offer him shelter. But how will the rest of the collective react? And what is the real reason for the unexpected visit?

Den stygge stesøsteren

Cinderella is no longer interesting; in this film, it's her stepsister Elvira who is in focus. To win Prince Julian, she is willing to do almost anything, especially when it comes to her appearance.

Armand

The film debut of director Halfdan Ullman Tøndel and Norway's Oscar hope for 2024 is a powerful film about an incident at an elementary school. The film had its world premiere at Un Certain Regard in Cannes and won the award for best film debut. Renate Reinsve plays the role of the mother of six-year-old Armand.

De uskyldige

Four children spend their summer vacations exploring the area they live in and the surrounding forest. Eerie things start to happen as their games start to develop into something more. The film is an intense, psychological thriller. 

Verdens verste menneske

Renate Reinsve got a lot of publicity for her role as Julie in this drama comedy from 2021. It is about life choices and the ever so difficult subject of love. The film was nominated for an Oscar, and has won several prizes. 

Sammen alene

Two couples who are friends spend a summer weekend at an idyllic place along the Norwegian coast. They are confronted by each other’s secrets and the choices they have made in life. We dive into a weekend of conflict, disclosure, chaos and love.

Makta rår

This documentary follows the “crown prince” of the Norwegian Labour party, Trond Giske. What happened when the party was losing popularity and Giske was hit by “me-too” allegations - and what are his thoughts about the future? Filmmaker Håvard Bustnes tries to get under Giske’s skin.

Ninjababy

23-year-old Rakel discovers that she is pregnant from a one-night-stand, six months after the deed. Rakel  has never had any desire to be a mother, and she must suddenly deal with matters she is unprepared for. And the sneaky Ninja-baby growing in her belly. 

Ingenting å le av

This comedian has everything going for him, until he one day falls apart and everything changes. Odd-Magnus Williamson plays the lead role in this comedy.
