About the service
Filmoteket makes it very easy for you to borrow and watch movies with your library card from home. The streaming service is developed and operated by Norgesfilm AS and delivered and continuously improved in close collaboration with a number of Norway's leading libraries. The film service was launched in April 2020 as the new way to borrow films from the library.
The movies on Filmoteket are available anytime and anywhere. You can choose from Norwegian, Nordic, European and international titles that target both children, youth, families, adults and seniors. The range goes from classics, cinematic books, big Oscar winners/ Academy Awards and so-called blockbusters ('bestsellers') to narrower films in the arthaus / independent category. The films are selected by the Filmoteket's editorial staff and in collaboration with the libraries. You find more than 2000 films and series to choose from, and the catalog grows every single week with lots of new, exciting content.
How to watch movies?
First you create an account at Filmoteket. If your library is affiliated with the service, you can easily borrow movies through your library card (library card number + PIN code). You can read about the movie and play the trailer before deciding whether to borrow it. There is never a wait for movies so you will always be able to borrow exactly the movie you want immediately.
Once you've borrowed the movie, you can watch it as many times as you want over the next 48 hours. It is your library that determines the number of loans you can make per month.
The movies can be streamed at all platforms in all well known browsers, and in dedicated apps for iOS and Android. You may easily cast the films to larger screens / TVs via AirPlay and Chromecast. You must be connected to the Internet to watch the movies.
On My Page, you register your library card and get a complete overview of your favorites, loan history and the number of used and remaining loans this month. You can also add more library cards if you have more than one in your household.
If you do not have a library card, you can easily obtain this digitally or by visiting your local library.
