A KKK museum is being set up in a small town in the southern states, and the tension in the society is being put to the test. Pastor Kennedy (Forest Whitaker) decides to do everything in his power to quell the hatred. But his congregation is doubtful when he includes clan member Mike Burden (Garrett Hedlund) as his protégé. A conflict that escalates when the clan leader wants revenge on his traitor of a subject.

Burden is an emotional account of the ever-present racial differences in the southern United States, which instill hope and faith in peace and improvement.
