Welcome to Bathtub - a small, poor coastal community in Louisiana cut off from the rest of the world. Here lives the six-year-old girl Hushpuppy with her drunken father. He has taught her to survive on her own, which soon becomes important when he becomes seriously ill and a storm puts the Bathtub underwater. Hushpuppy has to fight for her beloved home and find her place in a rapidly changing world.
