Dark Matter is a dramatic and captivating story about a Chinese student, Liu Xing, who comes to the United States with his head full of ingenious ideas and big plans. But as much as he understands astrophysics, he understands little about behaving in an American university. He does not understand the unwritten rules and comes into conflict with the university's leading astrophysicist, Reiser (Quinn), and from that day on his life begins to fall apart. Great ambitions turn into violent frustrations, and he decides to take bloody revenge on the world and the people he believes have failed him.
The story is based on real events and has Meryl Streep and Aidan Quinn in two of the main roles. The film's premiere was postponed because the plot is largely reminiscent of the Virginia Tech University massacre.
