Black Box Diaries

A gripping documentary about courage and justice.

8 March is the International Women's Day, and on that occasion we would like to highlight a story about women's struggle for justice. One such story is documented in Black Box Diaries, made by Japanese filmmaker Shiori Ito.

The documentary springs from Ito's personal encounter with the #MeToo-movement, and follows her through the process of seeking justice after a serious incident that recived a lot of attention in Japan. Via the documentary she depicts challenges in coming forward, facing the justice system and fighting for her cause.

The film was nominated for an Oscar, but the winner this year was the Norwegian-Palestinian No Other Land. It is still unclear whether Black Box Diaries will be shown in Japan, though internationally it has received a lot of recognition.

This powerful documentary is an important reminder why 8 March is celebrated - a day to highlight women's voices and stories around the world.

Congratulations!
