Back to when America was a distant dream for poor people around the world. The most adventurous came to seek new opportunities, often to find the same problems there, as at home. In this week's Friday film we follow a new couple in a barren and inhospitable landscape in Nevada. 

Friday film: The Dead don't Hurt

Vivienne starts up a relationship with Holger, and they move to his modest home in the desolate landscape of Nevada. The Civil War separates them, and Vivienne must manage on her own in a town full of corruption and unscrupulous people. It is a test to her endurance and independence in the face of an irreconcilible and brutal society. 

Vicky Krieps (The Last Vermeer, Corsage) and Viggo Mortensen (Lord of the Rings, A History of Violence) play the leads in this Western drama from 2023. 

The film was well-received and Mortensen's directing and script was praised for lifting the genre of Western into the 21st century.
